A load calculation adds up the general lighting load based on square footage, the required small appliance and laundry branch circuits, the fixed appliances such as water heater, range, dryer, dishwasher and disposal, the larger of the heating or cooling load, and any newer additions such as a pool pump or a vehicle charger, then applies the demand factors the code allows.
