The Call

We are not trying to sell you on the phone. We are trying to understand what we are walking into so the right person shows up with the right tools.

The Visit

An electrician comes out, looks at the actual condition, and tests what needs testing rather than guessing from a description. Sometimes the visible symptom and the real cause are two different things: a flickering light might be a loose neutral connection three rooms away, not a bad bulb or a bad fixture. We trace the problem to its source before we talk about fixing anything.

The Explanation and the Quote

Once we know what is actually wrong, we explain it in plain terms: what failed, why it failed, what the fix involves, and what happens if it is left alone. Pricing is quoted after we have seen the job, because an accurate number requires actually looking at the panel, the wiring, or the space, not guessing over the phone. We would rather tell you a real number once than a rough one twice.

The Work Itself

If you approve the work, we do it, and if it is the kind of job that requires a permit, we pull it and coordinate the inspection. Why an Electrical Contractor Is Not a Handyman

A handyman can hang a fixture, swap a switch, and handle a lot of small home repairs competently. What changes the calculation with electrical work is what happens when something is done wrong: a loose connection generates heat inside a wall where nobody sees it, an undersized conductor overheats under a load it was never meant to carry, a missing ground turns a metal appliance into a shock hazard the first time something fails inside it.

An electrical contractor works from the same rules every time: the National Electrical Code as adopted in Florida, load calculations that account for what a building actually draws, grounding and bonding requirements that are not optional, and permit and inspection processes that put a second set of eyes on the work before it gets covered up. That structure exists because electrical mistakes do not usually announce themselves right away. They show up as a fire, a shock, or a failed inspection during a home sale, months or years after the work was done.

We also carry the diagnostic side that a handyman generally does not: insulation testing, load calculations, tracing a fault through a wall or a slab without opening the whole house, and reading a panel to know what brand and vintage of equipment we are dealing with before we touch it. That is trade-specific knowledge built from doing this work and only this work.

There is nothing wrong with hiring a handyman for a lot of small home projects, and we are not trying to talk anyone out of that. The distinction only matters once the job involves the panel, the service entrance, new circuits, anything near water, or wiring old enough that its condition is unknown. Past that line, the risk profile changes, and so does what the work actually requires.

How We Talk About Problems

We tell you what we found, including when the answer is that nothing is wrong. If a breaker tripped once because of a specific overload and the circuit is otherwise fine, we say that instead of pushing a replacement. If a panel is old but functioning and not one of the brands with a known failure pattern, we say that too, and we let you decide the timeline for replacing it rather than manufacturing urgency.

The flip side is that we do not soften real hazards to avoid an uncomfortable conversation. If we find exposed conductors, a panel with a documented pattern of breakers that fail to trip, or wiring that has clearly overheated at a connection, we tell you plainly and explain why it matters. Some conditions are urgent and some are not, and confusing the two in either direction does not help anyone.

We also explain options instead of presenting one answer as the only answer. A house full of two-prong outlets, for example, can be handled three different honest ways depending on what is plugged in and what the budget allows. We lay those options out and let the owner choose, rather than deciding for them.

What We Will Do and What We Will Not

We will pull permits on work that requires them, test our own work before we leave, and tell you honestly if a job is bigger or smaller than it first appeared. We will explain a repair in terms you can actually use, and we will point out other issues we notice even if you did not call about them.

We will not skip a required inspection to save a step, put a bigger breaker on wiring that cannot safely carry it, or tell you a two-prong outlet is fine to leave as-is without explaining what that means. We will not do work outside our trade, like structural framing or plumbing, and we will not guess at pricing before we have actually seen the job. If a property needs work beyond electrical, we say so and let the owner bring in the right trade rather than stretching into something we do not do.

Homes and businesses call us for two very different reasons, and we treat them differently on purpose. Planned work, upgrades, and installations get scheduled: a panel swap, a new circuit for a kitchen remodel, a generator installation ahead of hurricane season, an EV charger before a new car arrives. That work benefits from time to plan the run, order the right equipment, and coordinate around your schedule.

Emergency calls are different. Power loss, a burning smell, sparking, a main breaker that will not reset, or storm damage to a service entrance are conditions where waiting makes things worse. How We Diagnose and Estimate a Job

What We Test, Not Just What We Look At

A lot of electrical diagnosis by eye is guesswork dressed up as an answer. We rely on actual measurements instead: a multimeter to check voltage and continuity, a clamp meter to see real current draw on a circuit under load, an insulation resistance tester to tell us whether old wiring is genuinely compromised or whether a single bad splice is the whole problem, and a thermal imaging check on a panel or a set of terminations when we suspect a connection is running hot. None of that is exotic equipment. It is standard for the trade, and it is the difference between replacing a part and hoping the symptom goes away versus finding the actual fault.

That habit shows up most on troubleshooting calls, where the visible symptom, a tripping breaker, a flickering light, a dead outlet, rarely points straight at the cause. A breaker that trips only in the afternoon might be reacting to heat building up in an attic run. An outlet that goes dead only when another appliance turns on might be sharing a loose connection three boxes away. We would rather spend the time tracing it correctly than replace parts on a guess and have the same call come back in a month.

What Makes a Job Take Longer Than Planned

We try to give an honest timeline once we have seen a job, but electrical work sometimes uncovers more than the original complaint. Opening a wall to run a new circuit can reveal a splice that was never in a box, wiring that does not match what the panel labels claim, or a connection that has clearly overheated in the past without anyone noticing. When that happens, we stop and explain what we found before continuing, rather than quietly expanding the scope and explaining it on the invoice.
